Mark spent 17 years as a teacher, an education advisor for City of York and a business owner supporting schools across the UK.

He later began developing resources for schools and at the same time, he began volunteering for a local charity that focused on child bereavement. This unexpectedly launched his ‘second career.’ He went on to run the charities’ support group for teenagers then started working as their education advisor.

During this time, he became a facilitator for a national charity and in 2017 he was asked to run a project to support families and professionals affected by the Grenfell Tower Fire. As this wound down, he became part of the West London team working as a Bereavement Support Practitioner with teenagers and their families.

He is the author of “Activities for working with bereaved young people.” (Child Bereavement UK, 2018) and ‘They're just not talking about it’, a chapter in the book ‘Men and Loss’ (Routledge, 2024).
